Brookings, SD - January 10, 2019 - Larson Manufacturing, the leader in storm doors and storm windows, announced its Low-E storm window products have received ENERGY STAR® certification in the northern and north-central climate zones.
ENERGY STAR, a joint program between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy, is a widely recognized energy-savings certification based on real-world data and user interaction with the products. For LARSON, ENERGY STAR is a recognition of its products’ energy-saving and cost-efficient benefits for consumers.
“Providing Low-E storm windows with an energy star label will enable consumers to identify a simple, affordable and cost-effective way to improve the energy efficiency of their windows,” said June Eng, Director of Marketing for Larson Manufacturing. “An estimated 64 percent of homes in the U.S. have inefficient windows. Low-E storm windows provide the means to improve a window’s performance where homeowners will not or cannot replace their windows.”
ENERGY STAR certified storm windows use “low emissivity” or Low-E glass to improve the energy performance of existing windows. The heat-reflective glass allows the right amount of solar heat through your windows keeping homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter; ultimately saving on energy bills. ENERGY STAR certified storm windows are an affordable option for homes where full window replacement may be difficult.

EPA estimates that on a national average, ENERGY STAR certified (Low-E) storm windows can save homeowners $350 on their annual heating and cooling bills (about 10%) when installed over single-pane clear glass windows (without existing storm windows). Consumers can expect to pay back the incremental cost of the ENERGY STAR certified storm windows in about three years. These estimates are conservative and do not include savings from reducing air leaks from older windows, which provides additional savings but can vary substantially from house to house. Actual homeowner savings will depend on local climate, individual home characteristics, and local utility rates.
Earning the ENERGY STAR label means products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, the Attachment Energy Rating Council has developed a rating system for both cool and warm climate zones. All LARSON storm window models have been given an Energy Performance Rating to ensure that homeowners are getting the most out of their purchase.
