LARSON Partners with Wreaths Across America

December 2021

Wreaths have significance for holidays, warm welcomes at the front door and honoring those who have a special place in our hearts. LARSON, the leading manufacturer of storm doors in the US, partnered with Wreaths Across America in a promotion called Wreath of Honor in 2021. Americans from every state were encouraged to submit a photo of their storm door wreath. For every submission received, LARSON sponsored one Wreaths Across America wreath. 

 

Levi, LARSON employee and Army veteran, was chosen to Move the Mission. Levi and his wife Kim, LARSON employee and Air Force veteran, delivered wreaths to participating Midwest cemeteries.

Fortune Brands Completes Acquisition of LARSON as Part of Outdoors & Security Segment

Fortune Brands Home & Security, Inc. (NYSE: FBHS, the “Company”, or “Fortune Brands”), an industry-leading home and security products company, announced it completed the acquisition of LARSON Manufacturing (“LARSON”), the North American market leading brand of storm, screen and security doors on December 14, 2020. LARSON storm windows receive Energy Star® Certification

Larson Manufacturing, announced its Low-E storm window products have received ENERGY STAR® certification in the northern and north-central climate zones. 

ENERGY STAR, a joint program between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy, is a widely recognized energy-savings certification based on real-world data and user interaction with the products. For LARSON, ENERGY STAR is a recognition of its products’ energy-saving and cost-efficient benefits for consumers.

LARSON donates a matching grant of over $1.8 million to Habitat for Humanity

Larson​ Manufacturing announced a gift to Habitat for Humanity to help build and rehabilitate affordable homes. The grant, totaling over $1.8 million, will be focused in the fourteen communities across the United States where LARSON has offices, manufacturing plants, and distribution facilities.

“We are very excited to expand our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and help families in need realize their dreams of homeownership,” said Jeff Rief, ​President of Larson Manufacturing. “Giving back to our communities is a key part of the LARSON culture, and we have supported Habitat for Humanity for many years. This gift will help advance Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope.”

Low-E Glass Option Added for Energy Savings

Low-E Glass is a thin coating on the glass that lets light pass through, but reflects heat. It has up to 24% better insulation than plain glass. It also helps reduce fading on the entry door and flooring. It helps keep heat in during the winter and heat out during the summer.

OSHA Awards LARSON VPP STAR Status

The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) recognizes employers and workers in the private industry and federal agencies who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.

In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent fatalities, injuries, and illnesses through a system focused on: hazard prevention and control; worksite analysis; training; and management commitment and worker involvement.

Larson Family Founds 1st Children's Museum in South Dakota

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota was founded by Dale and Pat Larson and their family, and focuses on learning through play.  Located in Brookings, South Dakota, it is the first broad-based, cross-discipline children’s museum in the state.

Pat & Dale Larson Recieve National Guard Employer Award

March 2001

Each year, Guard and Reserve employees, or a family member acting on their behalf, have the opportunity to nominate their employer for the Freedom Award. 

The ESGR State Committees review nominations and submit recommendations to advance to the next round in each of the three categories: small employer, large employer, and the public sector.  A national selection board comprised of senior DoD officials, business leaders, and prior awardees select up to 15 employers to receive the Secretary’s prestigious award.

Larson Manufacturing proudly installs storm doors on U​S President Bill Clinton's home.

LARSON Installs 60 Doors for Habitat for Humanity

August 1990

Dale Larson and LARSON employees traveled and installed new storm doors on 60 homes as a part of Habitat for Humanity and met President Jimmy Carter during the process.

Larson Manufacturing and the Larson Foundation found a match in the ​Habitat mission of helping families break the poverty cycle and build long-term financial security through affordable housing.

Larson Starts Scholarship Fund

October 1987

The Larson Memorial Scholarship Program was established in memory of Oscar Larson, the founder of Larson Manufacturing. Oscar Larson believed that every student should have the opportunity for a great education.  This program encourages children of LARSON employees to continue their education after high school.

LARSON Featured in Popular Science Magazine

May 1982

The LARSON Wood Core Designer series was introduced and the company was featured in Popular Science Magazine for its innovations in the storm door industry.

LARSON Builds a Rec Center

April 1979

LARSON builds a Rec Center for employees and their families in the Brookings, SD location.

The center is complete with a pool, racquetball courts, and tennis courts.


LARSON Produces First Wood Core Storm Door

June 1966

The first LARSON Wood Core Storm Door was produced and sold with pre-hung installation.

Dale Larson becomes LARSON President & CEO

September 1964

Founded by his father Oscar Larson, Dale Larson began his career with Larson Manufacturing in 1962. He led the expansion of manufacturing to Brookings, South Dakota, in 1964. With the passing of Oscar Larson in 1968, Dale Larson became the Larson Manufacturing Company president and CEO.

LARSON Opens Plant in Brookings, SD

September 1964

As the company grew, delving into new custom-sized products, LARSON decided to locate a satellite plant in Brookings, South Dakota, thereby increasing their efficiency and the speed of product delivery.

LARSON Moves to Lake Mills, IA

March 1961

On the verge of adding a fourth building in Albert Lea, the company received a special invitation in 1961 to establish a plant in Lake Mills, Iowa.

When later asked if he and his company were happy there, Oscar Larson said, “It was the smartest move I ever made.”

LARSON manufactured aluminum combination doors and windows, shutters, push bars, and awnings at its Lake Mills plant.

Oscar Larson had many fond memories of moving day. He just shook his head in amazement at the force of some thirty trucks and numerous businessmen and farmers who transferred the entire business to Lake Mills in one trip!

Oscar Larson Starts Larson Manufacturing

January 1954

On a cold fall day in the early fifties, 62 year old Oscar Larson stood upon a rickety ladder stretched up to his second floor bedroom while putting up the storm windows on his family home. He thought, “There’s got to be a better way!”
That's when L​arson Manufacturing began as a one-man operation.

​Larson designed his own windows and began a regional door, window, and aluminum awning company called Larson Distributing Company, later known as Larson Manufacturing Company in his hometown of Albert Lea, MN.
