Woo Hoo What a Ride-Max’s Ride III

Well, Mother Nature’s sound of thunder wasn’t exactly the one we were hoping for when we headed out to Cowboy Harley Davidson to set up for the 3rd Annual Max’s Ride for ALS Research and Patient Services with a Salute to the Military.  Luckily, DJ Big W was on hand to get the party started with something other than the sounds of nature. However, she decided to cooperate and held off the rain for our opening ceremonies. This year we had representation which included numerous Veterans and Active Military Personnel.  Robert Cloyd, Army Veteran and Chaplain for the Cowboy Harley Davidson H.O.G. Chapter started us off with an opening prayer.   The Young Marines then provided us with the presentation of flags and singing a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, was local artist Melissa Engleman. Winter, Marketing Director for Cowboy Harley Davidson coordinated the donation of our 4 man Police Escort and the small but mighty group of bikes headed out into the hill country.

Our awesome Max’s Ride volunteers then hurried to tear down and head over to Scholz Garten for a day of music and sunshine (did I mention sunshine).  As the bikes rolled into Scholz, the Natural Causes band broke out their version of “Born to be Wild”(right along with the preferred sound of thunder).  ROT staff had the Knievel Bikes they will be giving away at the ROT Rally this year on site. The Al Monti Band and The Bouldin Creek Bobkats also played and all donated their time and talents to Max’s Ride.

Although Mother Nature didn’t cooperate and when I woke up Sunday I was asking for a “do over” Max’s Ride III will go down as another incredibly incredible ride!!!  A BIG THANKS TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS, RIDERS, CONCERT ATTENDEES AND SPONSORS.  YOU ROCK!!!

Take Care and Be Safe

Max Harrison in uniform

Max Harrison was a man who fought two wars during his short thirty six years of life. He served in the Army and was deployed to Desert Storm. The second battle he fought began at the age of thirty two when he received the news that he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease.

From the moment he was diagnosed, Max vowed to educate and raise funds for research and patient services.

He lost his battle with ALS in November of 2006 but with our help his legacy will live on across the U.S.A.
