As Veterans Day approaches I wanted to take a moment to THANK all of our Veterans, Active Military Personnel and your families for the dedication, service and sacrifice you’ve given to protect the freedoms of the United States of America!

I am truly honored that through the years many of our riders, sponsors, volunteers and donors have been Veterans and Active Military Personnel. All of us associated with Max’s Ride for ALS Research and Patient Services will continue to play our role in raising awareness of the Military connection in the increased number of ALS diagnosis among our Veterans.

Our fight to strike out “The Beast” of ALS is far from over but we will continue the battle in honor and in memory of those who are no longer able.

George S. Patton ~ It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.

We thank God for so many!
Take Care, Be Safe & Thank You Veterans!

The ALS Association today released a new video that raises awareness of the connection between ALS and military service.
The video, found below:

which can be also be viewed on our website at www.alsa.org and on our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/thealsassociation, highlights the research which has found that our military heroes are twice as likely to develop ALS as the general public. The video is part of a nationwide awareness campaign that The Association has launched in advance of Veterans Day on November 11.
Additional videos will be released in the coming weeks and The Association will conduct other awareness and outreach activities that draw attention and support to our cause.

To learn more about our Veterans Day Awareness campaign, go to our website, http://ow.ly/79CVS. While you’re there, visit the Wall of Honor and read the powerful stories of courage posted by veterans with ALS, their families and survivors.

I hope you are all staying cool in this CRAZY heat! With their permission, I wanted to share these two e-mails from two families that were able to attend the National ALS Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. this year, over Mother’s Day weekend. They were able to attend, due in large part because of the donations raised at the 2010 Max’s Ride IV. Please read below:

Thank you SO much for making it possible for my husband Roy and myself to attend the ALS Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. Roy has ALS and is a veteran. Going to Washington, D.C. was a wonderful experience for both of us – hearing about the research being done, meeting so many new friends who are also suffering from this horrible disease, and meeting with legislators, many of whom were very sympathetic and will hopefully further our cause. Without your generous support, this would not have been possible. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and bless you in all your endeavors.

Sincerely,
Jeanne B

I want to send a huge thank you and a big hug for the biggest blessing that you gave me. That blessing was to share my story of my sister Elizabeth Ann Nelson. What an incredible experience it was to share my story with everyone. I made a portfolio that I carried with me everywhere and I took that with me. Losing her in January was very hard for my family but with your help you gave me the courage to keep her story alive and to share it with so many people. Although this trip was filled with tears my sister’s memory will continue to be in my heart and now in the heart of others and how this disease strickens so many people. I learned so much over there and having the opportunity to speak with members of congress knows that as we work together to find this cure we will continue to fight and never give up. This trip made such a huge impact in my life. Her two sons and her husband that she left behind were crying when I told them I was going to get this experience to share her story. Leaving on mothers day had such a huge impact also a day they will always miss with their mom. Thank you again for everything and know that anyone that goes on this trip such as myself puts a fire in our gut that we have to keep fighting everyday to find a cure.

God Bless You Whitney and again thank you.
